Chapulines (Grasshoppers)

Grasshoppers are one of Mexico’s most important edible insects and have been part of the local diet for centuries; even today they play an important role in the local gastronomy and economy of Oaxaca and other southern states in Mexico.

The grasshoppers of Merci Mercado come from the Central Valleys of Oaxaca, recognized worldwide for their quality and delicate herbal taste. These grasshoppers are completely dehydrated (not fried), giving them a delicious "crunchy taste" that makes them irresistible.

Try them as a stand-alone snack with a hint of lime juice, with your favorite Mexican dishes (such as guacamole, tacos, salsas, quesadillas, enchiladas, etc.), add a Mexican touch to any dish (pizza, salads, etc.) or even with your favorite desserts (chocolate, ice cream, etc.)

Aside from being delicious, the grasshoppers are an excellent source of protein with a light “carbon footprint.” We take pride in knowing that grasshoppers serve as a health benefit for you and the planet.
